fairy garden

This piece is a sculpture of a Monstera plant, which has been turned into a fairy’s house. Each leaf has a different design, imitating a real Monstera leaf, while there are fantasy elements built in. I included both a ladder on a stem as well as a staircase that was made from a vine to show a way to travel around the sculpture. I also added a door and balcony, as well as a bench swing, tire swing, hammock, and rope bridge.

Like so much of my art, this piece depicts a piece of my childhood. I made the piece to look back on some of my favorite memories with my dad. Every spring, we would make small fairy gardens, complete with furniture and whatever plants I wanted from the store. Some of our gardens are still growing in my art studio at my home in Colorado, and they are a constant reminder of my childhood.
